Bruce Mahin is an internationally renown performing musician who started as a young bassist playing professionally in bands at the age of 16. A classically trained musician, he has played guitar, bass, piano, electronic wind instrument and trumpet professionally and, as a composer, has released numerous commercial recordings of his original music on the Capstone, Navona and PnOVA record labels. He has performed in Glasgow, Paris and many significant venues in the United States. He performed with the String Theory Trio for over the past 13 years but during the pandemic began a solo career accompanied by a computer controlled by foot switches using Ableton Live. All arrangements and pre-recorded tracks are original and were performed by the artist. This new means of performance expands the potential for a vast array of acoustic and electronic instruments, pushing the traditional into innovative territories, yet permitting the artist to improvise freely without concern for boundaries that might be assumed in a performance assisted by machines. He calls this new style “The Electricana.”
Mahin completed a two-month artist residency and presented a concert at the “Cité Internationale des Arts” in Paris in March and April 2022. He received degrees in music from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Northwestern University and West Virginia University. He has been a music educator for the past 30 years and continues this vocation along with an active performance schedule.
